Degree (AAEE)

The Associate in Arts in Elementary Education (AAEE) degree is for students who want to pursue a career in elementary education, early childhood education, special education or multilingual/multicultural education. The AAEE degree can be obtained at any of the colleges within the Maricopa Community College system. It is designed for the student who plans to transfer to an Arizona public university and complete a Bachelor’s degree, and/or plans to become a classroom instructional aide.

About the AAEE Degree
  • The AAEE degree requires completion of 60-63 semester credits.
  • The AAEE degree includes courses required for general education, education foundation courses, and specific electives that meet the Arizona Professional Teacher Standards.
  • The AAEE degree and all of its credits transfer to any of Arizona’s public universities – Arizona State University (Tempe, Polytechnic or West campus), Northern Arizona University, and University of Arizona
  • The AAEE degree prepares students with content knowledge for the Arizona Educator Proficiency Assessment (AEPA)
  • Completion of the AAEE degree also provides students with the skills and training to become classroom instructional aides.
